Dr. CHU Chi-yu is a professor emeritus and the former director of the Centre for Translation Studies in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his MPhil and PhD in comparative literature from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong respectively. His research interests include theories of translation, the history of translation, literary translation, and translation typology. His research paper “'Literary' vs 'Literal': The Theories of Chinese Sutra Translation” published in Translation Quarterly was a winner of the Stephen C. Soong Translation Studies Memorial Award in 1999. He has published many research articles in China Translators’ Journal, Foreign Language Teaching and Research, Foreign Languages and Their Teaching, Translation Quarterly, among others. Dr. CHU is on the editorial boards of Renditions and China Translators’ Journal. Representative of his translated works are A Chinese Winter’s Tale (written by YU Luojin) and Selected Poems of GU Cheng.
