The School of Translation Studies (STS) at Xi’an International Studies University (XISU) is Xi’an’s premier location for studying translation and interpreting. It is located in the southern part of Xi’an city on an attractive and spacious campus with views of the Qingling Mountains.

The School has a comprehensive and wide-ranging translation and interpreting program, with highly-qualified and experienced teaching staff. Many staff combine teaching and professional practice, ensuring that they maintain contact between academia and the language industry.

Using these skills, they are able to teach courses which have practical application for students, and prepare students for the transition from the academic setting to the language industry.

The School represents an ideal study location for students who wish to focus on translation and/or interpreting with Chinese as one of their working languages.

If you have completed high school, you can take an undergraduate degree, which covers general education, language-related courses, debate and argumentation, history and culture, and other courses that will result in you acquiring wide-ranging knowledge related to translation and interpreting in a Chinese context.

If you have already completed an undergraduate degree, you may be eligible to study at postgraduate level. At this level, you have the opportunity to specialize in either translation or interpreting, and to be part of the various internship programs. For example, there are opportunities for you to take part in news translation, patent translation, and diplomatic translation. There are frequent interpreting competitions that allow you to practice your conference and consecutive interpreting, motivated by friendly rivalry with your fellow students.

If you study at XISU’s School of Translation Studies, there are also opportunities to do exchanges with other universities. We have, for example, exchange programs with the University of Westminster in London and Herriot-Watt University in Scotland.
