Frans De Laet is a renowned translator, interpreter and professor from Brussels, Belgium. He started teaching translation and interpreting (T&I) in the 1980s at the Francophone Graduate School for Translators and Interpreters of Brussels and shortly afterwards to linguists of the Council of Ministers of the European Union. In the early 2000s, he became Dean of his school and Secretary General of CIUTI. In 2006, he left Belgium for China. He created the multilingual T&I faculty in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and later became a professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University. He was elected Secretary General of FIT in 2008. For several years, he served as trainer in the TAC Training of Trainers program. Currently, he is editor-in-chief of Babel.
