  Prof. YAO Jinqing (Jeffrey Yao) is a productive translator of professional texts and literary works in Chinese and English. As a literary translator, he won several national and international translation awards during the 1980s and 1990s, and has translated and published since 1981 about 10 novels and books of literary theories, along with 50 or so short stories in China and abroad. The English authors he has translated include Graham Greene, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, John Updike, Bernard Malamud, Irving Stone, Raymond Chandler, Brian Moore, Norman Levine, Elizabeth Wright, and Shlomith Rimmon-Kenan. Yao started his career in professional (non-literary) translation in 1992 when he founded a translation firm in Ottawa, Canada, and has since worked on and supervised hundreds of translation projects in culture and arts, law, education, finance, and many other areas. Since March, 2006, Yao has been professor at the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation (GIIT), Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), teaching courses of Professional Translation between Chinese and English. He is also in charge of the GIIT Translation Service and Students Internship Center, which provides high quality translation and services for international organizations, such as UN stations, and Chinese government sponsored programs such as the World Expo 2010 Shanghai and the 2007 Special Olympics Games.
