Chen Jianfen (陈剑芬), lecturer. She is currently pursuing her PhD degree in Rhetoric and Composition at Purdue University with the concentration in technical communication. She received her second master’s degree in Technical Communication from North Carolina State University in 2019, her first master’s degree in Education Management and Economics from Nanjing Normal University in 2003, and her bachelor’s degree in Economics from Ocean University of China in 1999. Her research interests focus on professional writing, technical communication, comparative rhetoric, environmental risk communication, corporate communication, and technical translation. She has 16 years’ experience in technical translation and localization and two years’ experience in structured authoring, DITA and XML makeup language, Excel statistics, usability testing and reporting, content strategy and analysis, technical writing and editing, web accessibility, chatbot building, and agile project management. She was a professional translator and interpreter before conducting the overseas study in the U.S. Her clients include domestic and international companies and institutions, such as The Economist Intelligence Unit, Carlsberg Group, Sunresin New Materials etc. She has presented her research at a few international conferences, including 4Cs (Conference on College Composition and Communication), ATTW (Association of Teachers of Technical Communication), SIGDOC (Special Interest Group on Design of Communication of the Association for Computing Machinery), and Annual Symposium on Communicating Complex Information.
